MY JOURNEY TO OWNING A 100 DRESSES: BLUE ME AWAY (01)

MY JOURNEY TO OWNING A 100 DRESSES: BLUE ME AWAY (01)

“Style is a way to say who you are without  having to speak {Rachel Zoe}”

Well it’s been a minute, took a break from blogging and social media platforms to focus and rejuvenate. Once in a while we all need our sanity even if this means breaking from the usual routine.Anyway enough of that “I’m back” I missed you guys did you miss me though yes? No? Too soon? Okayha-ha.

It's July and that means its our FIRST year anniversary. That was super fast. hard to imagine right? It’s a celebration and we truly appreciate the support shown towards us (kaytietela team is grateful). Moving on swiftly. Today I will be doing my July favorites (under my journey to owing 100 dresses 2017) and to kick it off is “BLUE ME AWAY” this dress is just “life”. Ladies trust me when I say you should own a sweta dress especially during this cold season. It’s not that heavy as opposed to a sweta (pullover/ jumpa) for that matter.

I paired my dress with a sleek green hand bag with some sparkle nude strap sandals. Okay, you might wondering, lady, why all these bold colors? As I say “the three rule colors ”. This I was taught by my brother while we were growing up so I took the advice and it works for me.Basically, it means one should not do more than three colors, and make sure your colors blend instead of mix and match (my opinion).

This outfit can be rocked in different ways, for me the weather and location plays a big role when it comes to outfits. See the off-shoulder I would wear it to a dinner, lunch-date, red carpet events, a cocktail party with the girls. The other way is the turtle neck it is warm so no need for sweta and can be rocked anywhere like the other style.

I opted for minimal accessories just the earrings with my hair on a bun (keep the attention on the dress). Well fitted dress, who doesn’t like them though?

If you’ve got any suggestions on what you would-like me to talk about or outfit? …leave it on the comment section below.

I CAME TO SLAY NOT PLAY-SLIT AFFAIR

I CAME TO SLAY NOT PLAY-SLIT AFFAIR (part 1)

Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live {GIANNI VERSACE}”

Well for some reason I can’t stop having this song on replay on my mind…especially the lyrics “and if I was the slit on your dress my goal in life would to aim for the highest”

Today I'm going to try to keep it as short as possible. I'm at the location for today’s shoot, and the sun definitely came out to play…and the wind, I can’t even explain. Right about now my makeup is too fresh thanks to Joan (friend and personal MUA). As my sister is trying to set up my hair, let’s begin.

It’s all about the SLIT it doesn’t really matter how long or short it is but whatmatters is how you wear it.

So I decided to rock a floral skirt with one of my favorite vintage white tops. HereI'm breaking from the obvious long slit dresses. Purple floral skirt pairing with some strappy blue sandals (I call them Kim Kardashian sandals). The colors are neutral since the whole idea of the outfit is the skirt. Try not to overdo your outfits since you want to focus your attention on one item.Always wear minimal accessories.

My skirt is actually more of an overlap, the slit is from top to bottom. This can be rocked at a red carpet event, the office (if you prefer skirts as officialattires to suits), lunch/dinner dates or just a chill girl's night out.

Feel free to drop your comments, ideasor suggestions below.

LOVES ALWAYS HOPES

LOVE ALWAYS HOPES

“Soul mates…two halves of the same soul joining together in life’s journey {Author Unknown}”

Well I will try and keep this as short as possible but on the other hand I'm super excited to finally share this piece. It's been weeks now since I started to write down this particular piece, I'm eventually doing it. So I am in a new environment for a couple of days, beautiful weather, the wind is just pleasant, quiet and peaceful scenery it is.Here goes my story…

The best things in life are free, yes, like being in love and finding “the chosen one”…let me walk you through this for a minute. So my best friend Sara (not her real name) is getting married. Honestly I'm trying really hard to contain myself and not to get over excited too much but at least let “the bride to be“inhale and exhale .Besides my dream has finally come to reality, for almost a year now I have always wanted to do a bridal article but with such amazing news then this is the perfect timing. I know most girls dream of having that “fairy tale wedding “and happily ever after just like “Cinderella” (I know I do)

Having it all planned out in your mind and when it comes to executing it things get a bit tough. So I had to ask a few of my married friends and relatives and this is what I cam e up with, some things you need to consider.

First, try not to be a “bride zilla” yes this is scary you know cause the bride is under a lot of pressure when it comes to planning…everyone has an opinion to this and that, soit’s safe for the “love birds” to get a wedding planner to help out.

Secondly, “the dress” when it’s time for gown shopping you need to make it easier for yourself…do a trial makeup for the wedding and when trying out gowns you will get a visual of what type of dress you want without so much hassle. Also get a pair of comfortable shoes to pair with the dress…I mean don’t get a six inch heel please darling!

Thirdly, “the bridal dresses” this is where we actually “discuss” after the bride’s dress. Getwell tailored/ready made dresses for your girls something not to revealing, over the top just simple and elegant that will keep the guests talking about after many years or even on your “jubilee anniversary”

Last but not least, get a good venue for your wedding if it’s the grounds it should be walkable not muddy that is. Good food an amazing cake (should be enough).

Lastly “keep time” this is the most crucial point of all stories. If it’s a ten O’clock party then that’s it, you don’t want to keep your guests waiting now do you?

So that’s my compiled report from my people…well I would to wish all ladies that are about to walk down the aisle all the best in your nuptials and congratulations.

“It’s more important to look good everyday than to look different everyday” {RMRS}

Well I have said this like a million times now, lol, I know, but am just going to say it again! Men’s fashion is truly evolving. I mean gents of today take a minute to look good especially when it comes laying out an outfit, for some reason it feels pretty awesome. Today I have a chit-chat with such a cool guy, Ian Mugoya as he takes me through his style insights…

1) How can you describe your style?

  • I could say I’m current, not trendy just current.

2) What are some of shopping rules you wouldn’t necessarily recommend to others but which you follow?

  • Any rule that I follow I’d gladly share. Like shop assets first (things that bring money in e.g. start a business) and let the assets pay for the nice things (plush homes, time pieces, Bentleys etc.)…at the end of the day you will have both the assets and the nice things.

3) Was there a moment in your life when something “CLICKED” for you about fashion, dressing or hair? What was it and why do you think it happened then?

  • Yes, what clicked was that nobody needs to sweat the technique because character, service & relationships are what’s KEY whether one is wearing Gucci head to toe or not.(Smiles)

4) Are there any clothing (or related) items that you have in multiple? Why do you think you keep buying this thing?

  • I could say I possess everything in adequate numbers not that I buy frequently but maybe because I know how to keep things safe for a very long time (also not hoarding as I give and donate a whole lot too).

5) Is there any fashion trend you’ve refused to participate in and why?

  • I’ve not participated in most of them as I never go with the flow… I am the flow. *Laughs it off*

6) Do you look up to anyone in terms of style/fashion, both locally and internationally?

  • Style isn’t what I would really look up to in other people but for this questions sake I’d say Mark Zuckerberg same tee and pants every day, he must be saving a lot. (Well I’ve noticed that too am laughing off my seat)

7) What are you grateful for?

  • I’m grateful for so many things but main one is the breath of life as without it nothing else makes sense, right? (Yes!!I totally agree with you on this one)

OLDSKOOL UPGRADE

THE OLDSKOOL UPGRADE

“Fashion has always been a repetition of ideas…but what makes it new is the way you put it together {Anonymous}”
This particular outfit has to be inspired by my childhood memories (sounds Cray Cray but yes) now back in the day while I was in my lower primary, my favorite class teacher used to have good taste when it came to matters fashion lol ,who thought I would get inspired by her? Huh! Anyway my love for stripped pants grew from there, fast forward to the current trend I decided to do some bit of upgrade.
The good thing about this high waist-pant you can rock them to the office, red carpet events, lunch/dinner dates with just the right and appropriate accessories and styling. So for this I paired it with a turtle neck white fitting top with an opening at the back and comfortable nude heels. Keeping in mind that my pants are well designed for my body shape…comfort is always and should always be your number priority (after all who doesn’t want an outfit that compliments your body perfectly)
I have tried this combo before and it works pretty well for me both at the office and on the street. Pairing with the nude heels is my way of not drawing the attention to none other than my pants and always keeping it neutral in relation to the color combinations.
P.S
This is my favorite selection so far if you got any additions you can always leave your suggestions down at the comment box with your name and email address.

Taraji

“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself {Coco Chanel}”

Today I'm focusing on the recently conducted award ceremony The OSCARS. One particular lady that really caught my eye…my favorite actress. We all have come to love her…having graced the most recent TV series' now…from her movies to her sense of style…to me she’s the whole package...Introducing to you the gorgeous Taraji P. Henson.

Looking back at some of her past and recent photos this lady never ages at all!!!She slays even when not appearing on the red carpet. What I love most about her sense of style is that she truly knows her body and dresses accordingly from well fitted dresses to serving us some thigh-high slit.

Did you see her Oscar outfit!? If not don’t worry I got you…”She wore Alberta Ferretti gown. The sleek and vampy off-the-shoulder midnight blue velvet gown was a far cry from the romantic and frothy semi sheer Reem Acra concoction she wore to last month's SAG awards  according to Vogue ”

And not only is fashion and style a thing….let’s talk about beauty for a moment…my madam landed a huge endorsement alongside Jussie Smollett with Mac Cosmetics dubbed Mac Viva glam. Something you might not know is that every cent from the selling price of M.A.C VivaGlam lipstick and lipglass has gone toward helping women, men and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

P.S

Did you know that Taraji Penda Henson is an American actress and author!? Better known for her role as Cookie Lyon in the TV drama series Empire…Her latest inspirational film Hidden Figures (won a SAG Award for Best Cast) Some of her films include: Think like a man, No good deed, I can do bad all by myself, Ice age, Not easily broken etc.

She also won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for two Emmy Awards in 2015 and 2016.

Time named Taraji one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She released a New York Times bestselling autobiography tilted “Around the way Girl”

And above all she’s a mother of one handsome young man.

She listens to Hip-Hop music before heading out to the red carpet

Like I said in the beginning this lady is a whole package…am I the only one who is fascinated that her maiden name is a Swahili one Penda meaning love? Anyway if she happens to be your neighbor or friend pass my bear hugs and lots of love from a sister right here in Nairobi, Kenya!

Don’t change to fit the fashion, change the fashion to fit you {Inescapable Beauty}”

“Clothes don’t make the man, but, they can make the man look great {Anonymous} “

This quote really connects with my sentiments when it comes to the gents fashion…I mean take a look around ‘our men’ of today are really evolving and you can’t disagree with that. Fashion wise it has grown tremendously….So today I got to have a chit-chat with the ‘Baddest Presenter’ Martin.

  1. How can you describe your style?

Urban suave (came up with that. Lol)

  1. What inspires your style?

My work and lifestyle. The weather plays a role as well…

  1. Which is the most valuable accessory/outfit do you own?

A Rolex watch (smiles at his watch)

  1. Ever experienced any wardrobe malfunctions?

Yeah. My line of work demands a lot, especially when it comes to wardrobe. So one day I tried too much and it was a fail (sighs)

  1. If you were given an opportunity to ban or get rid of one fashion trend….which one would it be and why?

Fit head caps. They are outdated right now

  1. What is that particular item/piece you can never miss in your wardrobe or outfit?

Cologne and at least 3 pairs of well-tailored suits which I hardly wear(laughs lightly)

  1. Any fashion/style secret you would like to share….Any fashion advice perhaps?

Don't get swayed in any fashion craze if you're not feeling it. Comfort must be a priority in what you intend to wear. Be authentic!

Our Dazzling Style Star

Our Dazzling Style Star Her Excellency Margret Kenyatta

“Style is very personal…It has nothing to do with fashion…. Fashion is over quickly…Style is forever.”{Ralph Lauren}

As I wrap up 2016, I have one more “Style Star” I would like to appreciate. We all love her, she has brought a huge difference in our lives starting by helping out the girl-child get education, our expectant mothers country wide to get free maternal health care (The Beyond Zero Campaign). Her office has been on out and about in trying to make our nation a better place.

Today I feature the one and only, The First Lady of Kenya (Mama Wa Taifa) Her Excellency Mrs. Margret Kenyatta …Her style is incredible, the way she simply adorns her outfits one can never go wrong. I personally admire the way she keeps it simple but elegant. From her casual look to outdoor events…I did a little bit of research (in regards to her outfits) you will see that she knows how to dress her body…very uniquely I must say.

Few of Her attires that caught my eye was one during the Madaraka Day celebration…dazzling in a red dress with black embroider details on it, blending in perfectly with a black and red head gear and a black shawl placed on one hand side with complimentary accessories.

I promise you that her style is so amazing I can’t settle for one outfit cause she rocks all of them, so, well you know it’s very hard to pick one.

As I bid you goodbye for now this has been a good year and wanted to end our last piece this year reflecting on one of the most powerful women in leadership not only praising their works but also something different like their sense of fashion and style…..and for such amazing Style Stories you can only get it here at Kaytietela.com (Remember to subscribe) to our newsletter for daily updates.

All I can say is Her Excellency Margret your sense of Fashion and Style is incredible at this moment no words can explain or describe it. You’re amazing, gorgeous and beautiful I swear my eyes are a bit teary right now and there’s so much joy that warms my heart.
